It is the right trip if you have been to Egypt before, or if you want to test whether a longer route is for you.
What fits into short breaks in Cairo
Three days covers Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Islamic Cairo. That is a full but sane schedule.
Four days adds Saqqara and Dahshur, where the Step Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid stand almost empty compared with Giza.
You will not reach Luxor and back in a long weekend. People try. The day trip flies at four in the morning, returns after nine at night, and ruins the day either side.
Who short breaks suit
They suit people stopping over between flights, and people who have already seen Upper Egypt.
They also work as a first look. Cairo alone tells you whether you want the two-week version later.
Book the museum for a weekday morning. Weekends fill with school groups and the galleries lose their quiet.
