What Egypt in September is actually like
Egypt in September is the month the market has not repriced. Temperatures start to ease from mid-month, the sea is still at 30C, and rates are largely still at summer levels.
Luxor at 38C is demanding in the first half of the month and noticeably better by the end of it. If you can travel in the last ten days, you get near-October conditions at August prices.
Crowds build slowly through the month rather than arriving all at once.
What Egypt in September is good for
- ▲Diving, with the water still at 30C and the summer crowds gone from the coast.
- ▲Late-month temple visits, as Upper Egypt starts to become comfortable again.
- ▲Booking value — rates often lag the improving weather by two or three weeks.
One thing to plan for
The second half of the month is meaningfully better than the first. If your dates are flexible, push them later.

How hot is Luxor in September?+
Typical daytime highs are around 38C. Upper Egypt is consistently hotter than Cairo, and the Valley of the Kings has almost no shade, so morning visits are better than afternoon ones whatever the month.
Can you swim in the Red Sea in September?+
Yes. At around 30C the water is comfortably warm for swimming, snorkelling and diving.
Is September expensive?+
Low season. This is when Egypt is at its cheapest, with real savings on boats and hotels.
