Sharm el Sheikh weather · August
Sharm el Sheikh in August is hot, with highs of about 38C and nights of about 29C, the warmest of the year. The sea reaches 30C, its peak. There are about 12 hours of sun a day and rain days average zero. European school holidays fill the Red Sea resorts, so book early. Below are swimming, wind, prices, packing and day trips.
For families on school holidays, it is often the only choice, and the sea makes it work. The water is the warmest of the year.
It is also the warmest month overall. Nights stay at about 29C, so there is little relief after dark.
August suits water lovers who handle heat well. If your dates are free, late September gives you a similar sea with less heat.
Yes. At 30C the sea is almost bath-warm, and you can snorkel for as long as you like. Some divers find it too warm for a full wetsuit and use a shortie.
The water is the best place to be at midday. Shade and a pool cover the rest of the afternoon.
Wear a rash vest for long snorkels, even in warm water. The sun on your back is the bigger risk.
August is in the windy season. The northerly blows hardest from May to September, and it can stop the boats to Tiran for a day or two.
Boats are busier in August, so book dive and snorkel trips a few days ahead. Pick a trip early in your stay to leave a spare day.
If you dive on your last days, leave about 18 hours between your final dive and your flight home.
Across Egypt, August is quiet and inland prices are low. The Red Sea runs the other way: European school holidays fill the resorts and coastal rates rise.
Mawlid al-Nabi, the Prophet's Birthday, is expected about ten weeks after the Islamic New Year. That puts it around mid-August in 2027. Check the date nearer the time.
Book flights and rooms early for August. The most popular family hotels fill first.
Light, loose clothes only. Nights at 29C need nothing warm.
Pack a wide hat, sunglasses, rash vests for the whole family and plenty of sunscreen. Children burn fast on a shallow reef.
Rehydration salts and a refillable bottle are worth the space. Reef shoes protect feet on hot sand and coral.
Mount Sinai is climbed overnight, so you avoid the day heat. The summit is cold before dawn even in August, so bring a warm layer.
Cairo is about 35C in August, about an hour away by air. Luxor reaches about 41C and needs very early starts. Plan it as its own leg, not a day trip.
Petra in August is a very long, hot day. If you go, take lots of water and a hat.
Memphis Tours, the Egyptian operator behind our trips, has no set Sharm itinerary. Send a request and we will ask them to plan a tailor-made trip for your August dates.
July has the same 38C high, with slightly cooler nights at 28C. The sea is 29C, with 13 hours of sun.
September eases to 36C by day and 27C at night. The sea is still 29C, with 11 hours of sun.
August has the warmest sea and the warmest nights. September keeps almost all of that sea with a little less heat.
