Sharm el Sheikh weather · September
Sharm el Sheikh in September is still hot, with highs of about 36C and nights of about 27C. The sea stays at 29C, one of the warmest months of the year. There are about 11 hours of sun a day and rain days average zero. Once schools go back, the resorts get quieter and prices across Egypt are low. Here is what to expect.
Yes, especially in the second half. You keep a summer sea, the school crowds leave, and prices stay low.
It is still hot on land at 36C. Midday is for the sea or the shade, as in summer.
September suits couples, divers and anyone without school-age children. It is one of the best-value months for a warm sea.
Yes. At 29C the sea is about as warm as July. Long snorkels are easy, and a shortie is enough for most divers.
Calm mornings give the best conditions on the house reefs. Get in early before the wind and the heat build.
A rash vest is still worth wearing. The sun is strong for 11 hours a day.
September is the last month of the windiest stretch. The northerly blows hardest from May to September.
A strong day can still stop the boats to Tiran for a day or two. Plan a spare day if diving is the point of the trip.
Boats are less crowded than in August. That often makes the Ras Mohammed trip more pleasant.
Across Egypt, September is moderate for crowds and low on price. Rates often stay at summer levels for a few weeks while the weather improves.
UK and European schools go back early in the month. The Red Sea resorts quieten after that.
There is no major Egyptian public holiday in September. That makes it an easy month to plan.
Summer clothes for day and night. Nights at about 27C are still warm.
A wide hat, sunglasses, a rash vest and plenty of sunscreen. Reef shoes for the shore.
Bring a fleece only if you plan the night climb of Mount Sinai.
Mount Sinai is climbed at night. The summit is cold before dawn, so take a warm layer.
Cairo is about 32C in September and about an hour away by air. Luxor is about 38C, demanding early in the month and easier near the end. Plan it as a separate leg.
Dahab is about ninety minutes up the coast. Its shore diving makes a good change from the boats.

August is hotter, at 38C by day and 29C at night. The sea is 30C, with 12 hours of sun.
October cools to 33C by day and 24C at night. The sea is still 28C, with 10 hours of sun.
September keeps almost all of August's sea with fewer people. October is the easier month on land.
Yes. Highs are about 36C and nights about 27C. It is cooler than August, but still summer heat.
About 29C, the same as July. It is one of the warmest months for swimming.
Yes, for a warm sea at lower prices. The resorts get quieter once European schools go back.
Usually. Prices across Egypt are low in September and often lag the improving weather.
It can be. September is the last month of the windiest season, and boats can be cancelled for a day or two.
Almost never. Rain days average zero.
