Weather · Sharm el Sheikh
Sharm el Sheikh is warm, sunny and dry all year. Highs run from 22C in January to 38C from June to August. The sea is 23C to 30C, and it rains about one day a month in winter. Winter is mild with cool evenings. Summer is hot, with the warmest water. The best all-round months are March, April, October and November. Below is each season in numbers, then wind, packing and a page for every month.
Winter, December to February, is mild. Highs are 22C to 24C and nights fall to 14C to 16C. You get 8 to 9 hours of sun a day. Days feel warm in the sun, and evenings need a jacket.
Spring warms quickly. March is 26C, April 30C and May 35C. Nights rise from 17C to 24C, and the sun stays out for 10 to 11 hours.
Summer, June to August, is hot. Highs are 38C every month and nights stay at 27C to 29C. June and July have 13 hours of sun a day.
Autumn cools slowly. September is 36C, October 33C and November 28C. The sea stays warm, at 27C to 29C, right through.
The sea is coolest from February to April, at about 23C. It warms to 25C in May and peaks at 30C in August. October is still 28C and November 27C.
You can swim all year. In late winter many people find the water fresh. Most divers wear a 5 mm wetsuit at the coldest, and some add a hood. In summer many divers wear a shortie.
Ras Mohammed National Park is about 20 km south of town. The reefs of the Straits of Tiran are close too. Both are reached by boat, so the wind matters as much as the water.
A northerly wind is normal here. It blows hardest from May to September. On a strong day the boats to Tiran can stop for a day or two. If diving is the reason for your trip, plan four or five diving days in a week.
Rain is rare. The averages show about one rain day a month from December to April, and none from May to November. Showers are short.
From late March into April, the khamsin can bring a hot, dusty wind for a day or two. It passes, but it can haze the view.
December to March: summer clothes for the day and a jacket for evenings. Divers should check what wetsuit their centre provides.
April, May, October and November: light clothes, a thin layer for boat decks, a hat and strong sun cream.
June to September: the lightest clothes you have, high-factor sun cream and a refillable water bottle. If you plan a Mount Sinai sunrise climb, bring warm layers in any month. The summit is cold at dawn, and very cold in winter.
For a beach holiday without fierce heat, go in April, May, October or November. Highs are 28C to 35C and the sea is 23C to 28C.
For diving, September and October give 29C and 28C water. Summer is warmest but also the windiest stretch. Winter is calmer on this coast, though the water is cooler.
For a Mount Sinai climb or a day trip inland, March, April, October and November are the most comfortable.
For the lowest prices, go from May to September, when prices are low across Egypt. August is busier with European school holidays. Christmas and New Year are the most expensive weeks.
Each month has its own page with the numbers, crowds, prices, holidays and what to pack. The links are below. In 2027, Ramadan is expected from about 8 February to 8 or 9 March. Resorts fill with Egyptian families around each Eid.
Yes, by day. The average high is 24C with about 8 hours of sun. Nights drop to 16C, so pack a jacket. The sea is about 25C.
June, July and August all average 38C by day. Nights stay at 27C to 29C. September is still 36C.
August, at about 30C. July and September are about 29C. The coolest water is from February to April, at about 23C.
January. The average high is 22C and the low is 14C. The sea is still about 24C.
Very little. The averages show about one rain day a month from December to April and none from May to November.
Often, yes. A northerly blows most days and is strongest from May to September. Strong days can stop the boats to Tiran for a day or two.
