Sharm el Sheikh weather · April
Sharm el Sheikh in April is properly warm, with highs of about 30C and nights of about 21C. The sea is 23C, so a swim feels cool and fresh. You get about 10 hours of sun a day and about one rain day in the month. Crowds thin after the Easter holidays. Below are swimming, wind, holidays, packing and day trips for April.
Yes. April is one of the best months for a beach holiday that is warm but not draining. 30C feels hot in the sun and pleasant in the shade.
Evenings are mild at about 21C, so dinner outside is easy without a jacket.
It suits families, couples and first-time snorkellers. People who want bath-warm water should wait until summer.
Yes. With the air at 30C, a 23C sea feels cool and welcome. It is the last month of the cooler water.
Many divers still wear a 5 mm wetsuit in April. Snorkellers often manage with a rash vest on a sunny day.
Visibility on the reefs is usually good. Calm mornings give the clearest water on the house reefs.
The northerly picks up as spring moves towards summer. A strong day can still cancel the boats to Tiran, so keep a spare day for the dive that matters.
The khamsin can carry on into April. This dusty wind brings sand for a day or two and then clears.
On a windy or dusty day, the sheltered house reef or the pool is the better plan.
Across Egypt, April is moderate for crowds and mid-priced. UK and European Easter school holidays run into the first part of the month, and Red Sea rates stay up until they end.
After the Easter break, prices ease and the resorts get quieter. Mid and late April are often good value.
25 April is Sinai Liberation Day, a national holiday marking the return of Sinai to Egypt. Egypt often moves the day off to a Thursday, so check that week.
Light summer clothes are enough for day and night. A thin layer helps on a breezy boat ride.
Sun protection matters now. Bring a hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen and a rash vest.
Pack sunglasses and a light scarf for a khamsin day. Reef shoes help on the stony shore.
Mount Sinai is still a good climb in April. Nights at the top are cold even now, so bring a warm layer for sunrise.
Cairo reaches about 28C in April and is about an hour away by air. Luxor reaches about 35C, so temple days need early starts. It works best as its own leg of the trip.
Petra is a long one-day trip by coach and ferry. It is warm in April, so carry plenty of water.

March is cooler, at 26C by day and 17C at night. The sea is the same 23C, with the same 10 hours of sun.
May is a big step up, to 35C by day and 24C at night. The sea warms to 25C, and the sun reaches 11 hours.
So April is the warm month before the heat. Its sea is still at the cool end of the year.
Warm. Highs are about 30C and nights about 21C. It feels hot in full sun and pleasant in the shade.
About 23C. It feels fresh against 30C air. Many divers still wear a 5 mm wetsuit.
Yes, for most people. It is warm, sunny and calmer on prices after the Easter school holidays.
It can be. The northerly is picking up, and the khamsin can bring dust for a day or two.
A national holiday on 25 April that marks the return of Sinai to Egypt. The day off is often moved to a Thursday.
